Mexico or Bust!

Playa del Carmen, Mexico
April 28-May 8

I absolutely cannot think of a better place to celebrate 14 blissful years of marriage!

Matt  loves Tonya.
Tonya loves Matt.

Glad how that works out so nicely:)

On the beach right in front of our hotel.
The sand is silky and perfectly white and the waters amazingly blue.

Our first meal in paradise.

Shrimp Ceviche and Fish Taco's. Yum.

Our favorite little Gelato shop with the cool zebra chairs.

Breakfast on the beach with toes in sand.

Entrance to a cave where we were blessed by a Mayan Shaman (village healer). This purified us so we were in a proper state to go into the village cenote where we would be protected from the bad winds.

After the ceremony the Shaman allowed us to get a photograph taken with him.

The fun group we hung out with for the day. We mountain biked, zip-lined, repelled, snorkeled and swam with them and had a F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C time!

The bathroom. Cool, huh?!?

One day we did nothing but vegetate on the beach. It was heavenly!

Our hotel. Playa Maya.

Exploring in Cancun, which is about an hour north of Playa del Carmen.

My love.

Still, my love.

The beautiful ruins of Tulum.

Tulum sits on a bluff and down below is the most gorgeous beach. Just look at that water. It's amazing!

View of the beach at Tulum. So gorgeous.

Matt buying a tamale at a road side stand. It was HUGE and only cost 1.50. And the taste was to die for.

A cute old Mexican man playing his xylophone for tips.

On the catamaran trip to Isla Mujeres. We had a blast!

Relaxing under a palapa. If this is what heaven is like I am a happy woman.

On our way back to the mainland from Isla Mujeres our catamaran pulled up along side another boat that had this "spinner" on the back. We jumped into the ocean, swam up to the rope, put it under our buns and waited for the wind to lift us out of the water. It was so much fun!

4 years ago we stayed at the hotel Playa Maya and got to be friends with Pablo. We were so delighted when he was there as we checked in. He is such a great, great guy and we had many fun conversations with him. Hopefully he's there next time we visit.

Beautiful sunrise.

Iguanas.

Food was a huge part of our adventures. Our goal was to eat good and cheap. We had so much fun trying all the local road side stands and local restaurants. Here's Matt getting Taco's el Pastor. 3 taco's for about a dollar. And they were seriously amazing to the taste buds.

We had so many wonderful swimming, snorkeling and diving experiences.

Here we are swimming through a cenote.

A funky shot of the world beneath the sea. Matt captured this while we were about 60-80 ft. under the surface.

Scuba Matt.

Squid.

Baby Stingray.

A huge fish feeding on some coral.

Big crab.

Barrel Coral.

We also dove in some cenotes. This was a first time experience for us. It's considered cavern diving and it's also fresh water diving, which we have done neither of. Imagine diving in caves filled with water, few fish, and amazing rock formations and that's pretty much cenote diving. The waters are crystal clear which means that visibility is about 300 ft.. Sometimes it's really dark and you can see no way out, but we carried water flashlights to help us find our way. Matt liked the experience, but is much more fascinated with fish and coral beneath the sea. Tonya however fell in love with it and wants to do it again soon. This picture is taken about 40 ft. beneath the surface looking upwards to the trees in the jungle.

Look how clear the water is. Here we were about 30 ft. from the surface. Notice the fish close to the surface and how clearly you can see the rocks and roots in the water. So cool!

Tonya going to the surface. Our dive master is above me and Matt is below taking the picture.

Big Barracuda.

We saw tons of them as we snorkeled at Isla Mujeres.

So much fun!

Matt dove down face to face with this turtle.

I love how this shot turned out. Very cool.

Holding a Nurse Shark.
(Yeah, we're just a little crazy!)

We loved our time exploring beautiful Mexico.

We had so many awesome adventures and we loved every minute of it!

Of course we can't wait for next time:)

So--I think we need to vacation with you guys. Although--I would have been completely happy to stay at the beach for the entire trip. So glad you had a wonderful time and you took the time for yourselves.
