What’s Up, You Ask?

Lemonade 003

Lemonade 004

On the first sunny day Oregon had seen in awhile,Eli couldn’t stop talking about having a lemonade stand. So I whipped up a batch of lemonade. Actually, it was orange punch, but a sign that says, “orange punch sale”, just looks dweeby.

Pretty soon the neighbor kids were over helping.

And an hour and a half later the kids had raked in 14.25.

Not bad.

During the last semester of school Sophia’s class studied about Lewis & Clark and The Oregon Trail. The best part was that at the end of the year they got to experience a whole day of being pioneers, complete with pulling covered wagons. They were broken into teams where they had to pull together and get supplies for a covered wagon filled with the necessities for the rough journey ahead. Sophia put herself in charge of bringing a sheet, a rope, potatoes, and Gusher’s ( a fruit snack filled with gushy juice). Gotta have those Gusher’s to snack on while braving the expedition!

The day of The Oregon Trail Expedition proved to be drizzly and a little cold. Perfect conditions for making this journey seem very realistic to a group of 4th graders.

It even seemed a bit realistic to me as I noticed all the girls who had dressed in their long pioneer dresses had mud along the bottoms of their skirts. A scene which I am sure was common during the travels of those brave pioneer women. And as all the pioneers braved pulling their wagons up the steep muddy hill, I watched several of them slip and fall. Including my little Sophia. While I could tell she was not happy about it, it made my heart happy to see her brush her hands together and keep on trekking with her company without complaint. It was awesome watching the team work among all the groups.

And after the expedition was over all the pioneers were treated to a lunch of buffalo stew (with real buffalo meat!), and rolls with butter.

Such a cool experience!

We all applauded for them, which they loved. And they received a little treat bag. Jane made these darling graduation caps. Because she’s creative like that. I simply cannot believe that Ivy will be a big Kindergartner. I’m still a little sad about this fact.

And that my friends is what’s up!

Why do I have a feeling your summer will be just as busy as your end of the school year activities? Very fun-- I never made much money with my kool-aid stands. didn't help we lived on top of a hill with a col-de-sac and only 3 houses.
