The school year ended and summer started with a huge bang! We have been so, so busy, but we are having a F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C time.
On the last day of school Errol Hassell held a talent show for all those brave students who felt a desire to share their talents. Sophia and her friend Katie sang Taylor Swifts, "You Belong With Me" in the 4th grade talent show. They were so nervous, but they did it. I was so proud of them! They forgot to do most of their dance moves, but they sang the song all the way through. And each of them had a solo part. It was fun to watch. Sophia's dance group also performed in the all school talent show- according to the music teacher who runs the talent shows, the all school talent show is only for the most polished acts. He's an odd duck, but the talent show was a success, so more power to the man, I guess.
Just 5 days after school got out it was time to head off to Girls Camp. This was Rylie's first year, so I was extra excited to go! And this was my first year of going up all week long. Silly as it sounds the thing I was most nervous about is my hair. With all my crazy natural curls and very little opportunity to shower, I was really freaked out about having unruly hair all week. Luckily, sleep was a very small part of camp ( these girls do not sleep much!) and I remembered to take some hats along to help hide my mop.
We had an absolute blast!
Both Rylie and I won awards for going the extra mile. We were spiritually fed as we attended many devotionals. We ate very well. The food this year was amazing! We had fun doing crafts. The hair clips and necklaces were our favorite. Rylie fell backwards off of the monkey bridge and got the wind knocked out of her. She was sore for a few days, but the camp nurse set her up with some ibuprofen and all was well. We sang so many camp songs. Some I had never heard before- Banana Phone- never heard it before, but it rings through my head every day and it won't leave.
"Ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, banana phone.
Ding, dong, ding, dong, ding, dong, ding, banana phone!"
Camp was the best and both Rylie and I cannot wait for next year!!!
When Rylie and I pulled up into our driveway after camp this is what we saw. Her 12th birthday was the next day, which meant that she was officially old enough to join the Young Women's group in our church. What a cool way to be welcomed in! She was so excited :)
And today Sophia kicked off her Little Miss Sunshine Girls Camp! She got her friend Abbie on board to help her out. They had a great time preparing for the little girls to show up. The theme for today was Fun Friend Day. They played games, read books, played barbies, ate snacks and swam in our new backyard swim pool. I think all the little campers had a great time. So, if you have a daughter between the ages 3-6 and are interested in her coming to a little girls camp let me know. It's Wednesday's from 9-12 and costs 10.00. Sophia does a great job of planning everything out and she really does run the whole thing. I love that quality in her.

I love that Sophia is doing her camp again this year. So dang cute!
My mom was the camp nurse all five years of my girls camp, and I loved having that experience with her. So glad you had fun!!
We have the exact same pool, but ours is not in great shape right now. We bought a cover for it, but it tore already, and the wind has blown nasty stuff in it. Not quite sure how we're gonna get it all clean again.
Wow...I'm just gabbing on and on, aren't I? Guess I'll be going now. :)
We really need to get together. Our plans for long chats didn't pan out at camp did they? That Sophia is brilliant!
Good food at camp. Where was that when I was in young women's. I remember eating the same pasta salad for several days in a row and the only thing we had to drink was TANG.
Did I mention that it was up hill both ways to the outhouse too!
Girls camp is such a fun time! I have many, many good memories from it. Such a great testimony builder too. Glad you got to go with your daughter.
How fun for your Sophia (and her campers!).
If we lived up there, Emma would totally be attending the LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE GIRLS CAMP! I just love that Sophia! She is so cute and creative!
Sounds like you guys are having lots of fun!
