Hagg Lake

For the past couple of weeks it has been so hot here in Oregon. I think we hit a record of 107 degrees! That is just plain craziness for us Oregonians. So, to beat the heat we took the kids and our niece Caylie to Hagg Lake. Look at the grossness of the water!!! Nothing but a big, but very nice and cool, mud pit. It was so gross as we entered the lake and could feel nothing but slimy sludge dancing between our toes. The kids were a little freaked out by it, but in the end we all decided to just hold our breath, trudge through the sludge and enjoy the cool water. I was also praying that the water wasn't crawling with any deadly water parasites, but I figured that because there were plenty of boats out on the lake and people swimming all around us that we were probably safe. All in all we ended up having a great time! The kids hunted for rocks for their "rock club" that they founded while we were there, and Matt went out for a snorkel, but quickly gave up once he realized that he wasn't going to see any fish. Just way too much mud in that water! I'm sure it might be another few years before we frequent Hagg Lake again, but it's nice to know that it's only a 30 minute drive from our house...since the Caribbean Sea isn't.

I have to say I would have done the same thing in that heat. Just trudge on in!

Ewwww! Reminds me of Fern Ditch! (Fern Ridge Lake). Once you get past the grossness though, its fun!

The heat wave is intense, especially for Oregon. I am glad you were able to cool down in the mud bath.

And all those people pay for mud treatments at the spa when they could just go to Hagg!

Maybe next time try Blue Lake or Salmon Creek...both just as close and cleaner water from what I remember. It's been awhile since I've been to either.

i wonder why the water was so muddy looking? I don't remember it ever being that way..but either way it sure looks good. It was terribly hot last week!! Anything you can do to stay cool is worth it

I was thinking about doing a sprint triatholon at Hagg Lake this summer. The thought of swimming in that water was just too much for me. I even had nightmares about drowning in it.
