Song In My Heart
I have a sweet, sweet friend named Brenda. She volunteers once a week at the Elsie Stuhr Center- a hang out spot for the elderly. Here people aged 55 and over can take all sorts of classes. Come have a bite to eat. Play some pool. Hang out in the T.V. room. Crochet. Hang out in the T.V. room AND crochet :) And whatever else it is that the elderly do. Once a year this center puts on a sort of flea market, where the public can go and rummage through handmade and used goods that are priced dirt cheap. This year a couple of girlfriends and I decided to go and visit with our friend Brenda who was working the flea market. We spent about an hour rummaging. I bought some hand sewn barbie dresses for my girls and admired some antique jam jars as well as some mini salt and pepper shakers. There were some fun things to look at, but really, I was feeling cheap and didn't purchase anything besides the hand sewn goods.
Today there was a knock on my door. And at the door stood my dear friend Jane with a box from our friend Brenda. Inside the box was this GORGEOUS china set. A gift for me from Brenda. For ME? Brenda had watched me admire it at the flea market and then after we left decided to purchase it. For ME. Just because. My heart is touched.
"A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart, and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words." ~ author unknown.
A couple of posts ago I whined about feeling sad and rejected. I had forgotten the song in my heart and let myself fall into a dark place. A place that I don't want to go again. However, now that I have passed through this experience I can look back and see all those wonderful friends that were, and continue to be, put in my path to sing my song back to me. Friends and family that have no clue how their simple kindnesses buoy me up. I feel so blessed to be surrounded by such love.
And seriously, are those dishes not BEAUTIFUL?
