I had a good friend talk me into black Friday shopping this year. I have NEVER done this before. I value my sleep too much, I guess. But, this year has hit us financially a bit and Rylie needed a coat, so when I saw a black Friday ad for Old Navy and 15.00 winter coats, it didn't take much to convince me to drag my sorry bum out of bed. So, I woke up at 2:30 in the morning so I could meet her at 3:00. Seriously people, 3:00 is an insane hour to be out and about. Not normal! When we got there I was in shock at the amount of people bustling around. Seriously, the check out line went from the front of the store to the back of the store to the front of the store again. And the store had just opened. Crazy! By the time I got to winter coats Rylie's size was long gone. Now that's just frustrating! To make a long story short, we shopped for a total of 10 hours, but half of it was spent either driving, fighting crowds, or standing in line. I still can't believe I stood in line at Wal-Mart for an hour and a half. If we hadn't just driven 40 minutes to get there I would have turned around and gone home. Oh well, it was fun chatting with all the ladies in line. We shared stories about our kids and took votes on if we'd ever do this again. Only one said she did it every year. We all thought she was insane. I did score a pair of 7.00 snow boots and some hand towels for the ladies I visit teach and a few other little Christmas surprises. I adored spending time with my crazy friend. But if you asked me,
Would you ever do black Friday again?
I would have to say,
That would be a big fat NO!
So, I got home from shopping at about 1:00 in the afternoon. I was exhausted. My sweet husband told me to go take a nap. He would take care of the kids. And the picture above is what I woke up to. That's the best black Friday deal I got:0)

I can't beleive you shopped for 10 hours! What a hoot! I sure hope you got all of your christmas shopping done too. What a fun day for you-plus a nap followed by a chocolate love letter? You scored!
it was way fun seeing u at walmart...so next time u need to come with christy and nicki and I...this is my 3rd year doing it and we have it down to an art..literally we had this big ol plan for the things we needed and we executed it soo well...we left at 1000 pm and did different stores all night long...the secret...u need to get there early..second u need a "runner" and one to stand in the line..that way u get what each other needs and then u run and meet up in the line...for example..toys r us opeaned at 1200...we were in and out with EVERYTHINg plus more on our list and we were out by 1230...now walmart is a different story..they are not very organized there...it was CHOAS! and ya we stood in line for about an hour too..but the snow boots made it worth it!! anyhow..next year come with us,,it will be a much more pleasant experience...TRUST ME!
I still had fun with you! And I went shopping even after I dropped you off! :) I am sorry it was as great as you had hoped for! Sounds like you have someone who is a bigger pro at the Black Friday thing...maybe she can teach you and then you teach me?! :) Thanks for going with me and being crazy!!
I've been doing Black Friday for about 20 years and I love it. We are usually in Coos Bay and have not spent a Black Friday up here in the Portland area ever. I imagine that the crowds up here are much worse than Coos Bay.
I love Black Friday shopping! But, my experience sounds much different than yours. I was in and out of every store, got all the items on my list (including the $7 snow boots like you!) and it's all within in about a 2 mile radius...for ALL the stores. I was home by about 10 am. Fun day! Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving. I REALLY missed being with fam this year. Want to come here some year :)
Dierden told me she needed a coat this year too, so I bought one. I got a great deal on it. The next day, she came out wearing last year's coat. It was in perfect shape, and she told me how much she loved it. What am I going to do with this new coat? Do you still need one? I'm happy to part with it. Let me know.
I love black Friday shopping too, I think it is because we have done it for so long. We always go with all the girls in the family. It is frustrating when the things you went for are gone. Jacob went to get my xmas presents and they were all gone. I am glad you had fun though.
