I am not a lover of Jell-O. It's a little too jiggly and gelatinous like for my mouth. It just makes me feel a little woozy even thinking of it. Mixed with Cool Whip everything changes and I find it much more edible! I was assigned a Jell-O salad this year for Thanksgiving. I found it a little bit funny that I was asked to do one since I have NEVER made one in my whole life. I actually had fun searching the Jell-O recipe archives and seeing all the possibilities for the jiggly stuff. People are just creative when it comes to Jell-O. Sometimes too creative. Lime Jell-O with carrots, raisins, & walnuts topped with a little mayo concoction. Not right. I decided on this pretty little number after my search. Merry Cherry Dessert. A can of cherry pie filling mixed right in with the Jell-O. That mixture poured over angle food cake squares, then topped with vanilla pudding and Cool Whip. I suppose I found it edible because Jell-O was definately not the main ingredient. For my first ever Jell-O salad I thought it turned out beautifully. Heck, it wasn't even a Jell-O salad recipe, but I found that most Jell-O desserts and Jell-O salads all have one thing in common, Cool Whip, so I rebelled and went the dessert route.

Here is the Gold clan all awaiting our meal. I made them pause for a minute so I could snap this picture. We were already stuffed due to tons of appetizers put out beforehand, but we ate our turkey with gusto. I love these people. I am so THANKFUL that they are in my life.

Here's Eli, Ivy and cousins at the kid table. I used to HATE having to sit at the kid table. It felt like a punishment to me. I just wanted to be big enough to sit at the adult table. My kids however seem to think that the kid table is A-OK.

That looks so yummmy!
Very impressive Jell-O salad! I grew up with that green jello/carrot/cottage cheese thing every year. Grandma's special. Yum. :)
The Gold's are great people--all that I've met so far, anyway. Your Jello salad looks amazing, you Molly Mormon! It has always cracked Zan and me up that on the list of items for a years supply put out by the church that Jello is listed--like it's a staple. Ha! Ha! I guess I'm a rebel. My mom always used to make this really yummy jello salad every Thanksgiving, but the Hesses don't eat jello, so I only make it if my family's getting together. This seems particularly funny to me since my mom's a convert to the church and Zan's family is pioneer stock, polygamist blood and all that.
OKay, i totally love that you got a picture of the "kids table." I hated it too when I had to sit there. your dessert looks so good. Great job!
I think I like that word...gelatinous
I thought I was the only Mormon mom out there who hated Jello and had never made it before! Glad to have found you long lost twin. And we are hair twins after all too. :)
I think your salad looks like a trifle! Remind me to give you some of my jello salad recipes that make are fun to eat.
My family decided we are more about the appetizers than the meal...we graze all day long!
The Nativity is made out of some stickers that some ladies at church got somehow, wood blocks, modge podge and a spray sealent!! Pretty easy to make! Do you really want one of the advent calendars? And I was wondering if there is a day not this next week but the week after that the girls and I could come hang out. I will call you tomorrow! Love ya!
Your day sounds fun and the jello looks good. I never grew up with jello being a staple either. We laughed when the Thanksgiving sign-up for our group went around and the host put "at least 2 jello salads." Really? But, it was all good nonetheless.
What is Jell-O made from anyway?????
