For months the youth of the Beaverton Oregon West Stake and several other stakes ,ages 12-18, practiced and practiced for their BIG performance. Rylie, Sophi and Eli all had the privilege of participating. Thank goodness Eli made the age cutoff by just a few days! It was such a fun way for him to be introduced to weekly youth activities:) It was a HUGE undertaking and I loved going to the practices each week to see how the kids were progressing. And to think this was all accomplished by volunteers! The big performance happened on June 13-14th at Liberty High School and was very well attended.
I am grateful to belong to a church that sees the importance of giving the youth a safe, fun way to share their talents and express their testimonies through dance. I'm grateful that my kids were able to learn that persistence and hard work pay off. I'm grateful that they were given this opportunity to make new friends and to learn about other cultures.
So cool!
I never knew how strongly the spirit could be felt by just attending a dance festival, but to see hundreds of youth letting their lights shine and having a blast while doing it was incredible. It literally brought me to tears.
FYI- it was really hard to find my kids in the sea of youth out there on the dance floor, so I'm proud of the pictures I did get! Sadly I didn't get any good shots of Eli...probably because he was on the other side of the gym while performing. And it was dark. But I loved every minute of watching them perform!
