July 4th Weekend

We took our exchange student, Noelia, to the St. Paul Rodeo on Saturday night. There were so many people there! It was kind of like going to a fair. But a fair where almost everybody wears a big cowboy hat and girls wear short skirts with their cowgirl boots. We were a little out of place there in our city clothes and flip flops, but we had ourselves a good time! Matt was able to score us some free tickets to the actual rodeo events, so we had fun watching men get bucked off of wild horses.

Matt couldn't resist showing off his manly man skills on the pull up bar at the Marines booth. He wowed us with 12 pull ups!

My hero.

Now, that's a lot of bull.

Cool cowboy.

Ivy & Mom

On Sunday after church we packed up a picnic and went to the Rose Garden at Washington Park. The weather was gorgeous. Finally! The cold summer weather was getting really old, so the sunshine got us all giddy and ready to be outside.

Beautiful girls.

Gross, Rylie!

Sophia and her new cowgirl hat. Yee-haw!

My handsome little man.

We were laughing so hard! Noelia must think we're nuts!

On our way home from the park Matt thought it would be nice to show Noelia our winter cottage. He tried really hard to convince her it was ours, but I don't think she believed him. She's a smart girl.

Monday morning we left bright and early to stake our seats at the Hillsboro, 4th of July Parade.

The kids waiting for somebody to throw candy their way!

I love this picture of Matt and Ivy!

( rocket launch time! )

After the parade we went to a party at Uncle Jim and Aunt Clarka's house.

Simeon wouldn't let me get a picture of him all day. I had to tell him my camera was broken and that if he smiled it might help me fix it. Worked like a charm:)

It was getting late. Matt and Rylie were getting a little loopy.

Every time a firework exploded this is what Matt and Rylie were doing. Crazy kids!

We love our tradition of spending the 4th with the one and only Oberg family!

Can't wait until next year.

Okay...just caught up on all the Gold happenings. And I think Rylie's tweenie obsessions are funny. Tell her not to sweat her mother taking notice of all her interests and noting them...she should be happy you are aware!

I haven't been to a rodeo in years so I am living vicariously through you. Thanks for sharing your pictures.

Glad you had a great 4th! It's my favorite holiday -- by far!
